Make Ahead Meals

This woman is my new hero!  I wasn’t going to post today because I am supposed to be putting the final touches on the talk that Cindy and I are doing at Bloggy Boot Camp next Saturday!  NEXT SATURDAY!  I will be in Sunny Arizona wearing a skirt!  A SKIRT!  Wearing a skirt is much scarier than being in from of 100+ women……..I’m a natural show dog, so being in front of people usually doesn’t raise my blood pressure…….hello?…..why do you think I teach fitness classes?

Hoosier Homemade

While reviewing a cookbook, she organized a full menu with a grocery list for all the recipes.  My new HERO!  Again………why can’t these woman be in my neighborhood?  She has several posts about Make Ahead Meals…….Aren’t those the best words a busy mom could hear?  Well besides…”we’re going out for dinner”.image

She also makes some pretty cute cupcakes……she made them for Earth Day.  So creative how she made those bugs.  She has a Cup Cake Tuesday where you’ll find even more ideas.

Just wanted to stop and tell you a story related to premade freezer meals. (A fabulous idea, btw)

One holiday season I was particularly busy, and trying to get everyone's house presentable for the holiday was wearing me down. I was going on about 3 hours of sleep a night, and my employees were all away visiting family, so I was on my own. I was installing drapey at a client's house and she begged me to set down for a cup of tea and rest for a few minutes. I knew, however, that sitting down would slow my body down, so I kept moving.

The client kept asking me if I was ok and I explained that I was just terribly busy and had been surviving on little sleep and bad fast food.

Skip forward a few days. One day my doorbell rang, and it was this client. She told me that she couldn't get me off her mind and that she felt like she needed to do something for me. She asked if I would accept a gift from her, and I agreed. She went to her car and proceeded to get 2 large boxes out of the trunk. I helped her carry them in, and when she opened them, I was immediately confused as to why she was bringing me things that had obviously been in the freezer. (I started to worry that maybe she thought I couldn't afford groceries and was bringing me hers!)

She told me that she thought about what might be the perfect gift for me, and she decided that to make me 2 WEEKS WORTH of 2 MEALS A DAY, and freeze them for me would allow me to still eat properly, but get my work done. She made portions large enough for both me and my husband.

Let me tell you, I cried my eyes out. I still do when I think about it - it touched me THAT much. I was absolutely floored that someone cared enough to spend what must have been many, many hours preparing meals for me -and expecting nothing in return - just so that I could eat better while I was busy. She labeled every package and wrote heating instructions on them.

To this day, I have never received a present any better than that one. Hands down, the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever given me. I can't even imagine how much money she spent on that food, but it wasn't an issue with her. She only wanted me to be at my best.

I will never forget that gift or that woman.

Just wanted to share how simple things can make an impact on others.

Jen, Thanks so much! You are too sweet! :-)

Polly, That is just awesome! I've taken meals to ill friends and Moms with new babies, but never took meals to anyone that was just super busy. What a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing your story!

Great ideas and love the fact one may eat a wonderful meal if only we plan ahead. Tonight my husband fixed a truly awful grocery store freezer meal but at least we ate. I'm laid up with a knee injury and can't stand very long.
Reading Polly's response brought tears to my eyes; there ARE wonderful folks in this frosty ole world and, sometimes, we are they. -smile-
