Bargain Hoot

I’m listening…….if bargain is in the title and there’s a cute owl to capture my attention……then bring it on.

This site is kind of a hub of creative things…….Hmmmm, that reminds me of someone.

She’s got all kinds of helpful ways to create exactly what you’ve been wanting to do.  She has a bunch of Pottery barn Kids wall painting tutorial videos, as well as Target Weddings.

She has a ton of free downloads she’s found around the web….we like bird stuff don’t we. imageThis can be downloaded from her site.  Or at least she’ll steer you in the right direction.

She’s got a beautiful home.  Another one of those white slip covered couches that I hate so much…………NOT!  (I really want one)

image I love this girl even more now that she’s claimed her hatred for oak cabinets! She painted hers white! image And what I love even more is she replaced that hideous vinyl flooring with a more tasteful vinyl flooring.  I am SO doing that in my master bath.  I’d like to strangle the contractor how designed my master bath.image image  Speaking of stealing ideas……this is great!  See the plain white box below?

image A little spray paint, an item to use for masking and you’ve got yourself an original  box for placing that perfect gift in.image Are you sitting down? This next project will make you weep.

image Can you believe it?  She made this wonderful door /art…..from that ugly screen door above.  WOW!  I love her.image Ok…..this is my last thing…..She’ll even show you how to make this cute bird seed heart……..so sweet!image

Alright everyone…….I’m watching…..go visit her!  Leave her a comment letting her know how fabulous she is.  And you know what?  You’re fabulous too!  Really.

Have a great weekend.

Crafts for Kids

All comments in the month of May will automatically be entered to win a Lisa Leonard Necklace!  I love mine!image

You’d have to be half dead if you didn’t already know of my featured blogger today.  But on the slight chance she is new to you…….then it’s your lucky day…….you’re going to feel even more alive today!

Scribbit has been around……..that’s why she’s got so many great ideas on her site.

She’s a mother living in Alaska who keeps her kids busy with adventures and creative tasks.  What I love the most is how she creates an activity that doesn’t require a bunch of consumer products.  Most of her projects can be duplicated today with what you have in your home right now.  Those are the kind of activities and projects we need to keep kids busy.

With school out for some of you and only a few more weeks for the rest of us, Our focus turns to just that………keeping the kids busy!

My son will be all over this one.  Create your own Eco-System.  Look complicated?   No worries, because she’s got a tutorial with step by step instructions.image  Smelly!  When I was a kid, I LOVED projects like this.  What kid doesn’t like fun stuff like this below.   It’s a smell test.  Not only is it fun, but gosh, they may learn something at the same time.  I’m pretty sure it’s even more fun in cute pink and brown polka dot cups.image Color Match!  Another simple but fun idea.  First they get to paint……then send them outside searching for nature’s gifts in the same colors.  Big and small are going to love this.imageTaste Test- It’s projects like this that make you the best mom in the world.  Once again, I love this kind of game.  Create a taste test with certain foods.  She chose vanilla ice cream. image I  may be going out on a limb, but I bet kids would remember this over an overpriced trip to ChuckE Cheese.  (thank God my son never liked that place much) image One tried and true activity we do in our home that has lasted through the years, is making toothpick sculptures.  We use marshmallows instead of packing peanuts….both work great!  This will keep them busy for at least 30 min.

And then you can have them try this fun poking activity……..anything destructive makes my son’s heart sing.  AT least this has a bit of technique to it.image    When you visit her site, you’ll notice she is a mean knitter….not as in cranky mean, but really talented mean.  Such beautiful things she makes with her hands.  imageOf course she’s creative……but look what she figured out.  imageShe made this cute little button so she could create different looks for wearing a scarf…..a scarf she knitted of course.imageWith Memorial Day coming up quickly, you’ll enjoy this beautiful story she shares about this gorgeous Memorial Day quilt.  Heartbreaking, but very very sweet.image  I’d love to meet her some day and exchange Alaska stories.  You see, I worked in Kenai one summer many moons ago…..I still can’t believe I did that.  But I was young and adventurous…….that’s what we do.

OK, off you go…….go make me look good and make her feel good.

If you’re looking for more crafts for kids to keep them entertained, check out one of my past features.

All comments in the month of May will automatically be entered to win a Lisa Leonard Necklace!  I love mine!image

I featured one of Malia’s tutorials on the post I did for Skip to My Lou.  And yes it was Yesterday on Tuesday…  imageCindy’s readers LOVED it!  So I figured YOU would too.  Malia is also an active member in my Blog Frog Community/forum.

I just LOVE her photos. She takes THE best photos.  I want to know what lens she’s using.

Here’s the tutorial I featured.  A 4th of July Banner!  imageIt’s not too early to start decorating for the 4th you know.  When you visit her site, you can get a better look…..or you can head over to Skip to My Lou too.image You know you’re creative when you color a few strands of fabric to make some flowers…….and then……..imageYou see beauty is the piece of cardboard you used to paint them on.  She just couldn’t throw it away…….look at those colors……..image She just knew she could create something with it………Can you believe it?  I think that takes the cake on being resourceful.  Don’t you?image Being resourceful is a habit of hers.  She finally talked her friend into a tutorial on how to make Duct Tape Flowers.  DUCT TAPE!image More details on her site.  A lot more details on her site.imageAnd you know I have to show you these……I just love the idea of making melted crayon shapes.    image Alright…….you know what to do…….leave me a comment, then go surprise her about her feature.  I just love it when all you great readers leave tons of comments for the featured bloggers.  You really do make their day….not me.

Exciting things happening around Today’s Creative Blog.  I’ll soon be able to share with you a few of my favorite things.  Wheeeee!

Alrighty…….Here are the rules. Seems I’ve scared a few people with my strictness.  LOL  Sorry.

1.  If YOU made it, post it.

2. Anything creative.  Baking, cooking, knitting, sewing, painting…painting anything.  Room remodels, photography.

3. Basically don’t link up to promote your blog post or another linky party.  That’s where I get cranky.  I love promoting people, but I don’t like being taken advantage of…….you should at least buy me dinner first.  :)

4.  Post my cute button……..or the other cute button which is smaller.  It’s on the side bar.

Sewing Sewing Sewing

All comments left in the month of May will automatically be entered to win a Lisa Leonard necklace!image

I love a woman who enjoys being a mother. You can just tell this blogger LOVES her life.

A Little Bit Funky is a happy mama who sews and sews some more. She sews so much, she even has an Etsy shop……..I also love it when Mom’s can pad the families bottom line without leaving the home to work. I personally think the US should adopt what a couple other countries do……allow mom’s to stay home for at least a year and up to 5…..and get compensated. Think of what it would save down the road.

OK, stepping off my soap box and back into the beautiful world of creative goodness…….

Crystal has a segment called the 20 minute crafter……imagewhere she has projects that are supposed to be quick……….like these drapes……she added the yellow panel….so dang cute. But I hate to burst your bubble Crystal….but that’s gonna take me a few more minutes than 20….maybe 14,000 minutes. Come to think of it…….you better just sew them for me.image Or this cute tee she embellished. This actually looked simple…….for me…..if I could sew.image Let’s talk about her Etsy shop again….where she sells the cutest, most original little softies….I think she calls them Hoho’s. What a great gift.image More Hoho’s………Mmmmm hoho’s….I suddenly have a craving for those hostess hoho’s….imageThese are pretty cool too…….colorful, original……and hip.imageThere is just no end to the cuteness if you can sew. Adorable dish towels. Love the ric rac……….I also love the ric rac trim decorating her blog.image

She makes many different kinds of flowers……this was on a photo bag….image This girl has an eye for color…….she’s VERY good at putting stuff together.image Honestly…….is this not one of the best ideas…….and one of the cutest ideas for kids? Placing the state shape on a tee. Love it.image

And if you’re not into sewing….she has a few other creative projects to inspire you on this Monday. You can do anything with chalk board paint.image Go surprise her……she’s going to pee her pants when she finds out that she’s is today’s feature. She is so cute…..she has my button on her side bar with “someday” above it. Melts my heart. She is also a regular contributor to Get Your Craft On. I notice people…..I do. Speaking of which……is tomorrow. Come show off your latest creation. If you can’t wait, you can list it on Skip To My Lou’s Made by You Monday’s.image

ARt for kids!

All comments left in the month of May will be entered to win a Lisa Leonard Necklace. (that necklace below is actually on sale right now. $34)image**************

I’m for anything that gets my son away from his Play Station.  He loves art, so I keep a lot of art supplies around for him to get messy with.

Gail with That Artist Woman is an artist, an art teacher………an art teacher I wish worked in my son’s school.  I was lost in her site, going from one project to the next.  I am convinced with her tutorials that I can complete 90% of these at home with my son.  Some of her techniques will give you that “AHA!” feeling.  What I love the most, are these projects look good enough to place on your wall……well we place all our little darlings stuff up, but it’s not always pretty right?   There I said it……just don’t tell my son.  And before

Using a few materials and lots of paint, you can create some pretty cool flowers.  I’m thinking this may be a great project for our playroom wall.  Who cares if he’s 11.  I think it’s perfect.imageSee the fibers in the middle?  She’ll show you how……image It’s gonna look messy………and you know what?  It’s OK!  You can clean your house any ole day…….but a child’s imagination is more important.

image image I cannot wait to try this idea!  It’s a glue batik.  This is SO up my alley.  I love how she has clear tutorials on how to make all her art projects.image I’m sure it’s so hard for teachers to come up with original ideas for holiday gifts for the children to make.  I’m lucky that my son’s teacher is crafty.

This below is a cool gift for Mothers Day.image A Mother’s Day Diorama.  So cool.  I can also think of many other themes to try with this.  image  This one scares me a bit…..not in a creepy way…..but a complex way.  It’s an Advent Calendar.  So cool.  I’d have to start now to have it done by Christmas.  But seriously, you could use this for anything.  It’s amazing.image What kid doesn’t like making crazy looking characters?  I’m telling you…….those kids in her school are blessed to have her.image I can’t wait to try some of these projects.  Either can my son.
